Program Overview

B.Sc. (Hons.) Chemistry

The Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Chemistry program, restructured under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizes a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to education. This novel framework combines knowledge from relevant scientific disciplines and the humanities to provide students a thorough understanding of chemistry. The curriculum aims to develop research skills, problem-solving ability, and critical thinking. Students can customise their educational journey to meet their specific goals by choosing from a variety of entry and exit points. Students can earn certificates, diplomas, degrees with/without (Honors) based on the length of their studies. The design of the B.Sc. Chemistry (Hons.) programme reflects National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s focus on research and the development of practical skills. In order to promote creativity and a deeper comprehension of scientific principles, undergraduate research projects are highly encouraged for students. To ensure that graduates are ready for the needs of the modern work market, the curriculum also includes modules on computational chemistry, medicinal chemistry, advanced analytical techniques, and sustainable practices.
The curriculum comprises a blend of core theory, laboratory exercises, Ability Enhancement Elective (AEC) courses, and Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), such as chem-informatics and English. Spanning eight semesters, it includes Core Courses (CC), Discipline Specific Elective (DSE), and Generic Elective (GE) programs, along with rigorous laboratory practical sessions. The program facilitates extensive laboratory research projects, enabling students to explore chemical phenomena, properties, and reactivity in depth. With guidance from leading professors, students engage in individual research projects under expert mentorship.
