B.Sc. (Hons.) Biotechnology is a meticulously structured three-year undergraduate program with the strong interdisciplinary research base in biological sciences as well as various techniques applied to living cells. Biotechnology is one of the most emerging fields in today’s education system. Graduates in this discipline significantly contribute to improve people’s lives and health.
B.Sc. (Hons.) Biotechnology at IAR is 3 years (6 semesters) program with 140 credits. The course contents are designed as per UGC guidelines as well as for students who have a strong fondness to learn through practical education and a vision to explore new possibilities in the field of Biotechnology. It contains core subjects, elective subject, skill enhancement courses and discipline-specific course. The course not only provides theoretical knowledge of subjects but also engage the students in practical laboratories for better understanding of different scientific concepts.
The study module of biotechnology at IAR initially comprises of Biochemistry, General microbiology, Molecular and Cell biology, Fundamentals of chemistry, Plant physiology, Mammalian physiology, Developmental biology, Recombinant DNA technology and later on with the interdisciplinary and more applied courses like Nanotechnology, Biosafety & IPR, Industrial microbiology, Genomics & Proteomics, Animal and Plant Biotechnology,Bioinformatics, Immunology, Environmental Biotechnology etc. Public lectures, industrial visits, conferences and hands-on workshops are also an integral part of the program.
The program was started in 2014 currently more than 100 students enrolled. Some of our graduates are pursuing higher education in esteemed institutions like Hyderabad University, IISER etc. Few students were also selected for a summer internship at premier research centres in India.
Sr. Secondary (10+2) with Biology as a main subject or PCB.
The admission is based on merit.
