M.Sc Molecular Medicine

Program Overview

M.Sc. in molecular medicine is an interdisciplinary course on the basic understanding of human diseases at the cellular and molecular level in biological systems as well as of tools for conducting a focussed research towards disease prevention, diagnosis, and therapy. The course aims at developing a practical and theoretical understanding of the most important topics in molecular biology in areas such as Disease biology, Immunology, Cancer biology, Molecular diagnostics, Therapeutics, Gene Therapy, Stem cells and other advanced treatment which have revolutionised the field.

M.Sc. Molecular Medicine at IAR is a two-year full-time programme designed to equip non-clinical biologist with the in depth understanding and expertise on common medical problems and approaches for development of product or process towards addressing the same to the benefit of humankind. For successful implementation of these objectives, the following would be the taught modules which will be covered in four semesters

Biochemistry, Developmental biology, Medical Microbiology, Molecular & Cellular biology, Genetic engineering, Molecular basis of disease, Immunology, Human physiology, Molecular diagnostics, and therapeutics, etc. Students are also going to learn about Bioentrepreneurship, Biosafety, Bioethics and Intellectual Property Rights in the 3rd semester.

Public lectures, industrial tours, conferences, and hands-on workshops are also an integral part of the program. The students will also be prepared for competitive examinations such as NET/GATE if they wish to pursue research in their area of interest with their own fellowship in hand.

The course structure has been developed keeping in mind the need for practical understanding of the concepts through rigorous laboratory exercises. It is entirely a research led program and the curriculum also accommodates one complete semester (last semester) dedicated entirely for dissertation, to build the research aptitude and scientific skills of the student.

The program has been introduced this year onwards and we are one of the few universities in India offering world class curriculum in the field of molecular medicine. We believe that students can establish their carrier with this program into an exciting arena of human health and disease and contribute to the understanding and cure of some of the life-threatening diseases and challenges they impose. It would also give medical practitioners a strong hand hold in meeting the cause at the molecular level with a right cure for the modern scientific consensus is for every patient with a disease there is a need for personalized therapy especially in case of complex diseases like cancer.


  • B.Sc. in any Biological and allied subjects.
  • B.Sc. in Chemistry, Life sciences and Pharmaceutical sciences with biology as a subject.
  • M.B.B.S or BVSc.
