M.Sc Industrial Biotechnology

Program Overview

M.Sc. in Industrial Biotechnology is a two-year postgraduate program course that will cover the key enabling technologies that strengthen biotechnology research. Industrial Biotechnology is a function of applied Biotechnology. The discipline studies the methods of using Biotechnology for producing and processing materials, bioenergy, chemicals and also pharmaceuticals products. Industrial Biotechnologists find alternatives to preserve natural resources through alternatives and sustainable form of development.

The objective of this course is to enable the students to use micro-organisms and other enzymes for manufacturing products. Industrial bio-technologists come up with ideas for manufacturing products using less energy, reducing waste and still ensuring higher yields at reasonable pricing.

Industrial Biotechnology is a function of applied Biotechnology. The course comprises of various disciplines like Genetic Engineering, Immunotechnology, Fermentation Technology, Enzyme Engineering, Downstream Processing, Environmental Biotechnology, Biomanufacturing principles and Practice, Metabolic Engineering etc. The programme also includes interdisciplinary subjects such as Bioentrepreneurship, Intellectual Property Rights, Biosafety and Bioethics, Research Methodology and Scientific Communication Skill. Industrial Biotechnology is the emerging area of applied Biotechnology with wider application in Pharmaceutical industries, Bioprocessing industries, Health and Cosmetics and Chemical industries, Agricultural and Animal Husbandry, Environmental conservation etc.

This course emphasize on providing an exhaustive training on various aspects of Biotechnology. The course aim to enhance the scientific skills which is achieved through group discussions, term-paper assignments, seminars and tutorials over and above regular class-room teaching. Seminars in the second semesters is syllabus based; in 3 semester is based on research papers.

Eligibility

  • B.Sc. in any biological and allied subjects.

The admission is based on merit.

  • Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in India or abroad
