Postgraduate Program

The students are expected to have a thorough grounding at the undergraduate level to take the postgraduate program. The postgraduate program is academically challenging. The curriculum has been so designed that the students can take the net examinations where applicable.

The students study the subject of interest and complementary areas. There are range of core and elective subjects to choose from. The students will also be expected to carry out reasonable amount of self study, present seminars and their work in a methodical way. The students are exposed to research methodologies, are expected to plan and execute a project on their own or as a team with other fellow students.

B.Sc. Physics

Physics is study of laws governing physical sciences and has applications in all spheres of life. The students are exposed to subjects like quantum physics, thermodynamics, electronics, electricity and magnetism, optics etc. An undergraduate degree in Physics opens up the scopes in the field of engineering, defence, medical devices, research, education and similar fields.

B.Sc. Physics is a 3-year program spread over six semesters. The students are expected to earn a minimum of 120 credits from in six semesters. The students who take up studies in physics will get practical experience in electronics, electricity and magnetism, optics, thermodynamics and similar subjects.

The University undertakes a choice based credit system laid down by University Grant Commission (UGC). Students choose Core and elective subjects in Physics. They are expected to choose two additional subjects from Chemistry, Mathematics and Computers Science. The students also expected to complete four skill enhancement and ability enhancement courses like English and Environmental Sciences.

A continuous evaluation system is followed to assess understanding of the subject. Internal assessment shall be conducted through midterm examinations, assignments and class tests. End of the term Final semester theory and practical examinations are conducted by the external examiners. The minimum qualification for enrolment for the program is qualifying Senior Secondary School examination. Lateral entry in second, third is allowed for the program after appropriate credit transfer.
