Post graduate education is highly subsidized at the university. The number of seats for postgraduate program in academic institutions is also limited. To ensure the students do not miss out on opportunity to enroll for postgraduate program, the students may also choose to join integrated B.Sc. M.Sc. program. The students will get a confirmed position at the master’s level, subject to meeting the minimum eligibility criteria. The program ensures that the student are suitable trained during undergraduate program and do not face difficulty in education and research intensive environment at postgraduate level.
The students have the option to leave after undergraduate program with the undergraduate degree.
Chemistry is study of chemical processes and formulation. Chemistry is the basis of governing physical sciences and has applications in all spheres of life including medicine, biology, agriculture, nanoscience, material science, natural products and environment management. The students are exposed to subjects like organic and inorganic chemistry, material science, analytical chemistry etc. An undergraduate degree in Chemistry opens up the scopes in the field of engineering, agriculture, defence, medical sciences, research and similar fields.
B.Sc. Chemistry is a 3-year program spread over six semesters. The students are expected to earn a minimum of 120 credits from in six semesters. The students who take up studies in life sciences will get practical experience in molecular and cellular life.
The University undertakes a choice based credit system laid down by University Grant Commission (UGC). Students choose Core and elective subjects in Chemistry. They are expected to choose two additional subjects from Physics, Mathematics, Electronics and Computers Science. The students also expected to complete four skill enhancement and ability enhancement courses like English and Environmental Sciences.
A continuous evaluation system is followed to assess understanding of the subject. Internal assessment shall be conducted through midterm examinations, assignments and class tests. End of the term Final semester theory and practical examinations are conducted by the external examiners. The minimum qualification for enrolment for the program is qualifying Senior Secondary School examination. Lateral entry in second, third is allowed for the program after appropriate credit transfer.
