Materials Science

Dr. Shraddha Singh

Over the past several decades the automotive industry and aerospace sector has shown significant interest to develop light weight parts from easy to process composite/nanocomposites. These materials have been attractive because along with light weight they can also influence fuel efficiency and using carbon materials as a major ingredient provide their strength to the vehicle and make them suitable for high speed as well as high temperature resistant towards reentry of shuttles.

Current research is being carried out in four related areas of nano- and sub-micro-technology.

  • Carbon Fibre reinforced Composite- This study focused on the structure-property relationship of carbon based composites and nanofibres.
  • Carbon Nanotube/ Polymer Composite- This aim the introduction multiwalled CNT to epoxy composites in different ration to find out the difference in their mechanical behavior and microstructure.
  • Graphene Nanoplatelets/ Functionalized Graphite/Polymer Composite- This study intended to be a complete investigation of damage and fracture behavior of Composite by looking at affect of grapheme/ ex graphite on toughness of matrix materials.
  • Mode of Fracture and Microstructural Studies - The aim of the present study was to evaluate the tensile strength, elongation, microhardness, microstructure and fracture pattern

Ongoing Project

  • Synthesis and Characterization of Synthesis and characterization of zinc oxide (ZnO) filled glass fiber reinforced epoxy composites
